To start our week, students have been challenged with an experiment...the "Elastic Band Experiment". Each student was given an elastic band to wear on their wrist. When they complain, they will move the band from one wrist to the other. The goal is to keep the band on the same wrist, but even more than that, to gain awareness of the amount of complaining they may or may not be doing each day! Parents and families are welcome to join the challenge!! We started this morning and we will continue for the rest of the week, perhaps a perfect lead up to....THANKSGIVING!! At the end of the week, I will ask students to respond to this blog entry, sharing what they learned throughout the experiment. Parents, should you try it, you are welcome to leave a response, too!Here was our quote of the week:

It was hard because we all complain lot.

I found this project kinda hard because I always kept loosing my elastic band and I also learned that I complained alot about having to take my dog out.

I learned that instead of being unhappy about having to take out the dog I should be grateful that I have a dog.

I learned about gratitude you should try to always be a thankful person and don't complain a lot.
It was hard for me because i kept forgetting to switch the elastic band when i complained.

I found it easy most of the time, but sometimes I forgot it was the elastic band was there.

I felt good about being thankful because you never fell bad about most things and you never complain about what you don't have.
I found the elastic band experiment was hard because I didn't know if I was complaining or not.I learned that I need to figure out what is complaining.I learned that being thankful is good because your thanking yourself instead of complaining.

I found it easy. Because I did it for 4 days and I complaind 9 times. I think I did good on this experiment. I learnd I complain more when I am grumpy. I learned I am very lucky for what I have. by Tianna

I think it was in the middle depending on what mood you are in if you are in a good mood then you won't complain very much but, if you are in a bad mood then you would complain a lot more.

I found it hard because well i kept on breaking my elastic band. So now i am using a bracelet. But it was hard to notice when i complained. So yeah it was quite hard. I learned about myself that i complain a lot inside my head though. I hardly ever complained out loud. I learned that being a thankful person all the time would be really hard.

I found it hard to remember to switch my elastic when I complained. I did remember to switch it on Monday mornings because I really noticed I was complaining about waking up. I learned that if you have a bad situation you can change the way you think about it, and be thankful for it.

I found the elastic band experiment hard and easy at the same time. I found it easier to not complain at dance and school. It was harder at home because I can complain a lot at home without thinking about it. I learned that being thankful is very important to show because if nobody ever showed gratitude or thankfulness imagine what are world would be like. :)

I thought it was hard because when I get up in the morning I get mad and I complain and I also complain at my brothers I also think it is hard to remember to switch the elastic band.

"Elastic band experiment" was hard, when we complain, we change it and try not to change many time.I learn that I complain to much,it was easiest to complain at home because when my brother disturb me and I complain to my mom about it.I learned being gratitude is always good.

I found the elastic band experiment a little hard because it was hard to catch myself complaining. I had to think about it a lot. I found it easier to complain at home and with my family then at school. I learned it is very important to be thankful for the things we have and if we think about it, the things we complain about seem silly when we think about kids in other countries that can't afford the things we can.

ReplyDeleteI found it easy to do the experiment , because i hardly noticed it was there, I had to switch it a few times though because i was bored and had nothing else to do
I found out i would usually complain a lot but the elastic band reminded me to keep it in my head.

ReplyDeleteWell I it was fairly easy because I only complained 3 times and I barely noticed it being there.And the fact that I kept forgetting to switch.
I learned that the things that made me complain wee things I had done prior to the experiment . I learned that it was much easier to complain by myself.
And of course it is easier to complain the less grateful you are.
what I thought about the rubber band project was not as easy as I thought but you know how it is harder than it sounds because you don't really notice how many times you complain in a day .I learned that it is easier to complain wen you are with your sister's. and IT take's a stronger person to be a grateful person than a not so grateful person :Brittney
ReplyDeleteThe elastic band experiment was a little bit of both. Hard because I sometimes forgot to switch it. Easy because I don't complain THAT much. I complained more at my house than I did at school.
